Upon making my morning breakfast, I look out the window to see small white flakes being pushed around by the wind. It being April 5th, I double guess myself.... Is that snow? Or is there some huge fire nearby? Possibly a demolition at the too-close-to-me Atlantic Yards development?

Upon further investigation, realizing it was only 32 degrees out- the verdicts in.

So, yes this is winter in New York City.
The citizens have all forfeited their peripheral vision for warm, huge, hoods, while I've forfeited my Friday night to alcohol marketing work, seeing as how $100 an hour is worth my time to stay home when its 0 degrees out.

I've been dreaming all day as to what bathing suit and short shorts will make it with me to Argentina in the dead of their summer. I was afraid with this 50 degree winter we've been having, that i wouldnt be looking forward to 85 degree humidity. But no. I am. Im getting very excited.

Back to 40 degrees though tomorrow!

Thus far, 23 has been quite good to me!

First, upon waking up, I look out the window and there's snow on the ground!! If you've been following, this is the first occurrence for me this winter seeing snow!

Second, i take a closer look outside and see a Falcon on my neighbors roof with a pigeon in its clutches. My first falcon experience in NYC! It really was a National Geographic moment.

Third, I get to work and there are pink cupcakes awaiting me.

Let this day continue to be great!

My birthday is in exactly 2 weeks.
My mom always called me her "winter baby," but this year i have a feeling it may be too warm to even consider saying "winter." At this rate i wont be DIEING to sweat my ass off in humid, summer, Buenos Aires come February.

So, even though it doesn't feel like winter, the time of year when i realize "Oh shit. I havn't left NYC for 5 months, which means i've existed in a ten mile radius for far too too long" is upon me again. That's what happens when you live a coastal existence, only coming and going by airplane.

But... on the 8th day of above warm temperatures, it'll be hilarious when i step off the airplane in Seattle, Washington and hear tales of hurricane winds and record snowfall. A trip to the mountains is definitely in order! I want a cowabunga sledding adventure!

Upon viewing the new icons again, i realize i miss the "pop" in the styling.
Their "sunny" has lost its bright cheer.

So now to mine the web for additional weather related sights to get my "pop" back in my weather icons, at least through the winter months. Results to follow shortly... after all, it is raining out.

I believe they must have been dealing with the pressure of the new apple weather widgit icons in all their 3-D ness. However, I applaud them for their attempt, but think they failed majorly. Your "clouds" look like a charcoal smudge.

So on my way to work today, which involves riding my bike straight down Washington avenue for one mile and taking one right on Flushing avenue, it once again reaffirmed why i dont wear mittens.

Its 30 degrees and thats nothing to stop drivers from being utter assholes.
U turn into a bicycle- no problem!

At least when not wearing mittens i can still give him a piece of my mind with the universal finger.

almost 70 degrees last week, and 40 degrees colder this week, by the time im crossing Atlantic Avenue in the morning, Ive already shed a tear of adjustment to the cold. From here until spring ill be looking like a clothing moster with a helmet riding my bike.

It has been consistently around 60 degrees these past couple days. The leaves are past turning colors and almost completely finished blanketing the sidewalks and streets. Fall is the season in the city, when you once again remember you have neighbors that can see into you apartment.

Saw Todd St. John tonight speak at the Tischman auditorium. I love that place, its like a portal into the 60s with great acoustics. It was interesting to hear him go through his work, and i like the fact that him and his partner had some fun with the video conferencing. View his work here

Coming home it wasn't raining, but i was definitely in a cloud. Mist coated my face and i felt the the precipitation on my eyelashes.

i need a doppler radar watch. A big square one with a large screen, and a function where i could pick the colors to represent the different levels of percipitation. And its only function would be a streaming doppler radar. With these crazy wind/rain/lightning/green storm to perfectly sunny days, it would be a quality of life accessorie.

Or maybe i just need a giant bubble to roll around town in.

12 hour trip to Philadelphia

Took a quick trip down to Philadelphia to visit with my father who was there for a medical conference. Went straight after work to Penn station (I cant help but think about how ugly that building and the whole experience of it is), buying a ticket for the $56 regional train only to realize it was an hour and a half late. I ran to the customer service center for Amtrak to try to upgrade my ticket to the $110 Accela train, seeing how waiting that amount of time for the regional train would render my whole trip useless.

Lucky for me, Amtrak took mercy on us, buying the regional train ticket holders seats on the super fast train (and hence selling out the train) and charging us no upgrade fees. So I got to Philly exactly an hour later, with the wonderful experience of traveling south at sunset. The train itself was full of business people ( I mean... c'mon.... who else can afford $110 for a one way one hour train ticket?!). I think I lucked out though as far as business types go to share my booth with 2 gay shoe salesmen and getting to easedrop on their dating gossip.

The next day, with time not an issue, I decided to take the china town bus back to New York. 2 hours and $12 later, I was back at Penn Station. The only thing is.... IT SNOWED THE ENTIRE TRIP.

Today we hit the 70 degree mark, the population is rejoicing in the sun, and damn- the girls are starting to look good. This will be short, because I should be out riding my bike- not sitting in front of a computer screen. (AND YOU SHOULD BE TOO!)
